Terms of Service

Last updated: 2026-06-05

These terms govern your use of Sansonnet, a free bird-identification game. By playing — on the web or inside Discord — or by creating an account, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

The service

Sansonnet is a free, hobby bird-guessing game. We offer it as-is and may add, change, or remove features — including the daily challenge, leaderboards, or accounts — at any time. We don't guarantee it will always be available or error-free.

Your account

An account is optional. If you create one, give accurate information, keep your password to yourself, and don't share or transfer your account — you're responsible for activity under it. You can also play through Discord, in which case your use is additionally subject to Discord's own terms. You must be old enough to use the service in your country, and at least 13 (matching Discord's minimum age).

Code of conduct

Sansonnet is meant to be welcoming to everyone. You agree not to use names, nicknames, bios, or any submitted text that are offensive, harassing, deceptive, or that impersonate others — and above all, nothing hateful or discriminatory. Racism, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia, and discrimination of any kind have no place here and are strictly forbidden. Also forbidden: harassment, threats, spam, cheating or exploiting bugs to manipulate scores, and any automated or abusive use of the service. We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to edit or remove content and to suspend or permanently ban any account that breaks these rules — with or without notice.

Content you submit

You're responsible for the names, bios, and reports you submit, and you confirm you have the right to share them. By submitting them you allow us to display them where needed to run the game (for example, your name on a shared leaderboard or public profile). Please don't enter real personal details you'd rather not make public — see our Privacy page.

Bird photos & third parties

The bird photos come from the iNaturalist open-data community and remain © their respective photographers under the CC0, CC BY, or CC BY-SA licenses; we only display them. Species data also comes from iNaturalist. We are not affiliated with iNaturalist or Discord.

Disclaimer

The service is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of — or inability to use — Sansonnet.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We'll update the date above when we do; continuing to use Sansonnet after a change means you accept the new terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by French law. Nothing here limits any consumer rights you may have that can't be waived under the law of your country of residence.
