Sansonnet is a small bird-identification game. We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the game, and we don't track you. Here's exactly what that means.

What we store

When you create or play a challenge, we save the game's settings and code, the player name you type, your scores, and your per-round results so the shared leaderboard works. For the daily challenge we also store an anonymous device id (see below) with your result and a streak count, so the global leaderboard and your streak work — the id identifies a browser, not a person. If you report a photo as bad, we record which photo, for which game. The player name is chosen by you — please don't enter real personal details you'd rather not store. If you create an account, we also store your chosen nickname, your email address (used to verify your account and confirm sign-up), and your password — only ever as a secure hash, never in plain text. Your nickname, join date, daily streak, and recent daily scores appear on your public profile.

In your browser

We store your language preference, your chosen color theme, the display name you last used, and a random anonymous id in your browser's local storage. The id lets the daily challenge keep your streak and limit you to one attempt per day; it is first-party, never shared, and not used for advertising or cross-site tracking. If you're signed in, a session token is also kept there to keep you logged in — signing out removes it. There are no advertising or tracking cookies, and clearing your browser storage resets the id and streak.

Usage statistics

We keep simple, aggregate counts to understand how the game is used — for example how many challenges are completed and roughly how many visits we get. These are first-party and anonymous: a visit is counted using the same random device id described above, never with your name or any personal profile, and we don't use third-party analytics, advertising, or cross-site tracking.

Server logs

Like any website, our server keeps short-lived technical logs (including IP addresses) to operate the service and protect it from abuse. These are not used to profile you.

Bird photos & third parties

Photos are served directly by iNaturalist and Amazon Web Services, not by us. When your browser loads a photo, your IP address is visible to those services, which are governed by their own privacy policies. We don't share any of your data with advertisers or analytics providers.

What we don't do

No advertising, no third-party analytics, and no cross-site tracking. Accounts are optional — you can play everything without one. We never sell your data.

Keeping & deleting data

Game results are kept so leaderboards remain available. You can ask us to delete a game's data — or your whole account — at any time using the contact below; deleting your account removes your profile and the scores recorded under it.

Your rights

If you're in the EU, the GDPR gives you the right to access, correct, or erase your data, and to object to its processing. To exercise any of these, just get in touch.
